ABONE (Active Backbone) Related Entries Web Links New/Updated Information Note: Many topics at this site are reduced versions of the text in "The Encyclopedia of Networking and Telecommunications." Search results will not be as extensive as a search of the book's CD-ROM. ABONE is an experimental network that is being used to explore and test the concept of Active Networks, a new technology that adds intelligence to data packets so they can direct themselves through networks, rather than rely on routers. This is not to be confused with the Asia-wide Internet backbone that connects a number of Asian countries, including Japan and Thailand. Copyright (c) 2001 Tom Sheldon and Big Sur Multimedia. |
