A security incident is a breach of security, an attack by a hacker, a Trojan horse, a virus, and so on. Incident response deals with how these are handled. Administrators should be prepared in advance for such events and have a planned response. Appropriate mechanisms must be in place to detect security breaches and then do something about them. See "Security Auditing."
