IIOP is part of the CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture). It provides a way to allow CORBA-based object interaction over TCP/IP protocol networks, including the Internet. IIOP basically works in conjunction with or replaces HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol), the primary protocol for Web browser/server interaction.
